2011 FDLE Uniform Crime Report Released

2011 FDLE Uniform Crime Report Released

On April 30th, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) released the 2011 Uniform Crime Report. The statistics in the report include crime and criminal activity reported by 411 of Florida’s 414 law enforcement agencies.

While the overall number of domestic violence and forcible sex offenses dropped slightly, the incidents of reported stalking increased a startling 66.5 percent. The numbers are still relatively low, but the overall magnitude of the increase causes great concern as we know that stalking is a common precursor to domestic violence homicide.

Thankfully, we did not see that increase this year and are encouraged with the continued reduction in domestic violence murder and manslaughter. Yet, even with those reductions, 192 individuals died as a result of domestic violence crimes.
